The LCD HDTV or Lquid Crystal Display television is a flat-panel television which employs the Liquid Crystal Display technology. It got two layers of glass that are bonded together. One of these layers holds the liquid crystals. These liquid crystals allow the light to pass, or block the light source, to deliver images on the screen when electricity is passed through it.
In LCD TV the light source is a series of fluorescent lamps at the rear of the TV screen. With the lights emitted by the fluorescent lamps, the images created by the liquid crystals become viewable to the viewer. An example of LCD TV with light emitting diodes backlight is Samsung LN40C630 hdtv.
The LED Televisions are in reality a specific type of LCD Television. They also make use of Liquid Crystal Display technology. The difference lies in the light source, which is at the rear side of the TV screen. The LCD TV utilizes ccfl lamps, and the LED Television uses Light Emitting Diodes. An example of LED TV with light emitting diodes backlight is the LG LED TV series.
Types of LED TVs:
There are two different types of LED TVs depending upon the system of light source. One is referred to as Edge lighting, and the second one is named Full-Array lighting. In the Edge lighting, the series of light emitting diodes are organized along the outside edges of the Tv screen. But, in Full-Array lighting, there are several rows of diodes behind the full area of the screen. They allow better control over brightness level and dimming, since the diodes can be turned on and off independently.
Advantages of LED TV over LCD Televisions
So is LED superior to LCD TVs? In fact one should ask, is the LED backlit better than LCD Televisions with CCFL light as the only differnece is the light source. There are few vantages of bringing home an LED Television.
Starting the LED Televisions produce slightly improved motion graphics since Light Emitting Diodes are said to dliver more balance in color saturation. LED Tvs also utilize less power than the fluorescent lamps.
